Boy Cards!

 Hi Friends!

As the Summer moves on, so does my reprieve from making "Boy Cards".  Ughh!!  I'm never caught up with those.  But, this year will be different!  I sat down and did some Pinterest surfing and found some techniques and cards to case and got a bunch done!

The first two I did by using the (now) very trendy "splotching" technique.  I'm sure it has an accurate name, but I can only show you how I did it, don't know the name!!

I wanted to use these dimensional "boy" stickers I picked up from Joann's during a 50% off sale last year.

I chose coordinating ink colors (Island Indigo, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake) and directly smooshed each of the ink pads down onto my craft sheet. I just pressed part of the ink pad down and I didn't mix the colors doing this.  Then I closed my ink pads and put them away.

Next I spritzed the inks with water, several times actually, so that the inks were pretty wet.  At that point, the resulting puddle of wet ink shown here became my ink pallet.

I used the splotch/stain stamp from SUs! Rock Star set, and just pressed it into my very wet ink pallet and then stamped my white card panel.  I stamped my two card panels at the same time.  (Sorry, I never mounted the sticker that should be on the back of this stamp block.)

After I was sure the splotch on my card panel was dry, I attached one of the boy stickers.  Next I stamped a sentiment that sort of went with the sticker (from the Fiskar's clear stamp set of Birthday Quotes). I attached the finished panel to my card base with dimensional foam and they were done!

This next Boy Card was not made using the above techinique!

It started as an embossed Crumb Cake CS panel using a Tim Holtz EF.  I wanted to play around and see how I could make it more grungy and vintage looking.

First I lightly swiped Adirondack Snow Cap ink direct onto the CS from the pad across my embossed panel.  I then alternated swiping some Chocolate Chip, Cherry Cobbler and Island Indigo inks across different areas of the card.  The Snow Cap ink helped to keep the ink colors muted.  I liked that the raised areas caught the colors pretty randomly and afterwards I went back and deliberately added more ink in some areas to bring out the colors.

I attached my sticker from the same sticker set, but it kind of got lost on the background.  So I took a black Copic marker and ran it around the edge of the sticker image so it would stand out a little better. I wrapped a string of twine and added my tag to finish it off.

This last card is a different altogether!

No real technique to speak of; I just assembled some fun "Technologic" Kaiser Craft die cut shapes onto Vanilla CS.  I stamped a sentiment from Maya Road on the star before adhering it with dimensional foam.

This close up shows the little "Irresistible Resisters" that I wired onto the card.  They are actual tiny electronic resisters you see on the inside of electronic gadgets.  Really cool! I got them from "Sky Blue Pink", a very funky kind of store for crafters when you are looking for some odd, hard to find trinket stuff for creating!

I hope you enjoyed my "Boy Cards"!

BTW, I just wanted to share with you that I had several cards published in "Papers and Pixels" (see my side bar) this month and also, I just found out I was one of five selected from the Hero Arts Blog this week as a "Heroine" for this card I entered into their challenge last week. I have a new "badge" from HA for my blog!!

Isn't it Purdy?!!

Awww...lookit what my sweet friend Bev (aka Beestamper) bestowed upon my self. What a kind gesture and an honor just to be nominated. I have so many people to thank and the director is telling me to get off the stage so let me just say Thank You. Thank you for the virtual hug Bev, your encouragement does wonders for this tiny stamping mealy bug in the giant stamping universe!! You are a sweety! So the drill is that when you get one of these gold stars, you need to pay it forward. And so, I present to you, my forward-ees -- in no particular order. (And by the way, I know most of these gals already have this award or they have so many they've probably lost track. But to you, I say, may your blog never be big enough to hold all your awards!!!!) So grab the badge girls, and pass it on (if you haven't already)!! 1. Julia (aka Artystamper/Create with me) Julie-oolie-oolia is one of my Doubledog Dare pals and has become quite the mentor and muse to me. I adore her. 2. Beverly (aka Beestamper) Backatcha GF!! My original Doubledog Dare pal -- this is all because of you my friend! I bet it's against the rooles to give the award backwards. Can't be helped. 3. Joan Ervin (aka Joan Ervin/Stamping with a Passion) My first encounter with a Dirty girl. And I must say, everyone needs to meet one of these girls at some point in their life. Her talent is as big as her heart. 4. Michelle (aka SF9erFan/Stop and Stamp the Roses) This girl oozes talent, talent that is being published as we speak (there -- your secret is out!!), and she is so willing to share all that she knows and loves. A true gem. 5. Joanne (aka SleepyinSeattle/Sleepy In Seattle) -- Another Doubledog Dare pal who's art caught my attention in the gallery long before she became a Doubledog Dare pal. She is crazy talented and generous with her comments and support, a friend indeed. 6. Stephane (aka SmilynSteph/Ingenious Inkling) -- SCS Inspiration Queen! How did I get so lucky! I love getting PMs from her when she has to be away for the weekend. Odd that I adore her most when she's gone! I am thrilled to be in your pool of back-ups for the Saturday ICs Steph! Check out what this woman does on her blog!! 7. DawnL (aka Dawn A New Day) Did you know that not only does this girl stamp up a storm (RE: Dawn's clouds), she raises llamas? I'm telling you, there is a stamper out there that owns freakin' llamas!! Is this a great world or what??!! 8. Susan (aka http://wwwone4joydaily.blogspot.com/) -- This woman's blog brings serenity to my frantic world. I love her insightful posts and lovely art. 9. 4 Cardinals, 3 Challenges, 2 Christmas Cards, and a Fun and Cool Award from My Friend Joan!!

Yah, you should be able to sing today's blog title to the "12-Days of Christmas" song...I'm humming... :) I have so much to post today. I'll try to be brief cuz I have lots of pictures!
First -- the 4 Cardinals! I am not nearly done with Christmas cards but I focused on two designs today. One of them was with the "A Cardinal Christmas" set from SU. Here's the 4 cards -- any of them stand out to you? I don't know which one to make multiples of for the give-away stash. Let me know, k?
Second -- I finished 3 Challenges today!! Personal best, record for me!! Here they are:
The first card is actually for next week's Doubledog Dare Challenge!! This was so much fun!! Bev (aka Beestamper) sent us a package of goodies to use for this challenge. We could use which ever parts we wanted but had to create a Christmas card with them. Check out all the fun stuff!!! ....and this cutie wooden mitten!!
I quickly grabbed the paper, ribbon, and stamps and made a couple of Christmas cards right away! I love love love that color combo!! The ribbon and stamps were so fun, this was easy peasy!! (The stamping is on the rose panel, didn't get a good photo of it.) Thanks for the wonderful goodies Bev, I will be using them more I'm sure!! The second card is a two-fer. It is for this week's Doubledog Dare Challenge that I hosted for our stamping gang. The challenge was to create a card inspired by either this Ugg Boot or this Ugg Boot! I chose this one (the first Ugg boot):
(The picture of the boot is not very good, you need to check the link of the first boot!)
and then made this card:
I paper fringed and quilled some flowers and leaves in colors to match the ones on the boot. I also used my cuttlebug scalloped dies to make some brown flowers, snipped the petals and layered them to make some large sized flowers. Stamped the sentiment from the "All Holidays" SU set, and glued down all the flowers and leaves sort of randomly to cover the card. Added a few white half back rounds to match the boot.
So, if you're counting, that makes 2 challenges. The 3rd one is using the same card above, and it is for a challenge that I am doing with one of my stamping pals, Joanne (aka Sleepy in Seattle). We are giving each other a month to use a specific unused, unloved, or forgotten tool or technique that we both never use that we once thought we had to have! This month we started out with quilling, and so this is my submission!! Check out the GORGEOUS snowflake card Joanne made for her submission (of course she was much more prompt in posting than I !!) Third -- Two more random Christmas cards I made this weekend:
The one on the left is a stamp designed by Judy Duke that I bought from a company called B&Js art stamps out of Las Cruces, NM. I stamped it with Green Stazon, colored in the pinecones with copics, added glitter and a shiny plastic bow, and stamped the sentiment using one of the cute little stamps from the stash of goodies Bev sent (see first challenge card!!). I really liked this one, I will be making a few more of these. The photo I posted isn't very good at all, but I posted it on SCS also, so if you want to see a better view of it, you can check it out here!
The card on the right was much simpler and faster. I used my Woodcut Wheel from SU to stamp the poinsettia background, then added layers of green, red, and some DP from HL. Glued on a little plastic poinsettia that I got in a pack from HL. The ribbon is SU wide grosgrain. Fourth -- and last, but not at all least...ta da!! Joan Irvin awarded all the Doubledog Dare bloggers a Kreativ Blogger award!! How cool is that? (See my cool new badge on the side bar!) Joan is a wonderful, sweet stamper friend of mine from here in Texas that I've never met!! She's super talented, a famous Dirty Dozen Alumni, and designs for several stamp companies. You have to check out her blog!! I am honored to be stamping with her and the award is such a thrill!! Thanks Joan!! Now to pay it forward.... how fun!!
The rules are:
1. The winner may put the logo on their blog. (Done!) 2. Put a link to the person who sent you the award. (Done!) 3. Nominate 5 blogs. (In progress...) 4. Put links to their blogs (In progress...) 5. Leave a message for your nominees. (In progress...)
The first person I'm nominating is Susan Conrad (aka One4Joy). This is one creative woman whom I admire both artistically and personally.
The next 4 are TBD! I'm just so new at blogging that I am still discovering new and amazing blogs everyday!! So stay tuned for updates to this list!!
Whew!! See, I told you I had a lot to post today!! Thanks for checking it all out!!
Sweet dreams everyone!
